Requirement for filing spousal visa

US citizens can petition their government to allow their foreign relatives to become residents in America. These relatives include children, parents, siblings and spouses. To file this petition, these requirements must be met.

The petitioner (Sponsor) must be a US citizen / Permanent Resident. The Petitioner must show documents that prove that he/she status in the US. The documents include an international passport, birth certificate or naturalization certificate.

Evidence of Marriage. There must be evidence of a formal marriage ceremony. In Nigeria, marriage conducted at the Federal Marriage Registry is the most recognized. A marriage certificate is issued, and this serves as documentary evidence of a marriage.

Proof of Maintenance. The Petitioner AKA the sponsor must show the ability that he or she can take care of the beneficiary for at least 1 year. This is calculated using the Federal Poverty Guideline that states how much households earn.

File Petition Forms. There are various petition forms that the Petitioner should file. They include Form i130, Form i129 and in some cases K3 visa applications. These forms cost a significant amount of money.

The beneficiary will undergo a Medical Examination and Police Certification.
